Pts deduction yes, legally they cannot relegate Derby now, anyway how would that work? Games have been played!

As I said, it's the EFL. If us and Wycombe had only played a couple of games, I wouldn't put it past them to rush things through meaning the 2 clubs only had 2 or 3 games to catch up on. Leaving things till next week will see it being totally impractical by the time they've audited the 3 years accounts, accepted them or not, done the 3 FFP checks, decided if there's charges to be made, make them, arrange a hearing, wait for the verdict, any appeal from us or them....... if there's a loophole anywhere they'll find it.

One 'loophole' is to issue a future penalty, not just points but a relegation from the division we would OTHERWISE be in come the end of the season. Not sure I've seen this in footy but it happened in the long dead Notts/Derby border cricket league, a team was found to have been using 'pros' (no not prostitutes you know what I mean) so were told mid season they would be dropped a division down the next season from the division they were entitled to be in come seasons end. My recollection is they finished as division champions so remained in the same division the following season. Can't remember the team but I can remember my dad RIP hitting one of the pro's bouncers into the Derwent down at Darley Park

Closer to "home" there is also the Rangers model

I would dearly love them to issue a points penalty retroactively to the year in question - possibly 2014-15 - when we started this amortisation policy. Deduct 10 points from that season
