Leuty said, “I took the ball off Wilkinson cleanly enough, and Wilkinson fell against me off balance.”
Leuty, tragically, would be dead just 9 months later.

Yes I stood outside the church on Beeston high road with hundreds more including all my family from Grandad and Grandma and all the Jones's down to me and my cousins and watched his coffin draped in black and white come out of the church. It was my first sight of a funeral took a while to get over it.

Years ago, when I was researching all of Notts appearances on film and TV, somebody was adamant that the 1955 Chelsea cup tie was shown as a newsreel. I couldn't find any record of it but it may have actually been shown on TV as a BBC newsreel. They started doing this at the start of the 1948/49 season when the Football League finally agreed to it, probably not much more than a minute's worth of material from each game. Sadly there's no record of the games they broadcast in this form. Jimmy Jewell did the voiceovers initially, he was the BBC football TV commentator post war and commentated on the FA Cup finals but he died in 1952 and that's when Ken Wolstenholme took over.

On the day we played York in 1955, there was still only one TV channel. Benny Hill was on that night (no scantily clad ladies I suspect at that stage) and the news bulletin was still "sound only".

1955/56 was the season the BBC started showing regular Saturday night highlights under the "Sports Special" banner. These were 5 minute edits and still shot on film, usually two or three games shown every weekend. They eventually got to Notts in 1959 when they showed the Bath City game.
