I went to a talk on medical science about 7 years ago and you are correct. It's around a 10 year period from start to finish.
Most don't get past the first 2 years according to the person doing the talk.

The number of positive Covid-19 cases is rising daily despite over 3.6 million people throughout Scotland having had both their Covid-19 vaccinations.
The deputy first minister John Swinney stated a couple of days ago on BBC Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland programme that the large increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases amongst people aged 18 was due to the schools returning. This is yet another clanger by John Swinney as there are unlikely to be any 18 year old pupils currently in secondary schools in Scotland until March next year (2022).
In my opinion the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases is due to staycation holidays in Scotland and the rest of the U.K.
The Argyll and Bute Council area is currently in 7th place out of 32 local authorities throughout Scotland for having the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people.
Last Wednesday evening I was speaking to a person from Bute who told me that there are currently 136 positive Covid-19 cases on the Isle of Bute out of a resident population of 6,000.
It was reported at the Islay Community Council meeting by the head GP on Islay that on 29th July 2021 there were 7 positive Covid-19 cases on the island which equates o 207.9 per 100,000 people
Yesterday on the Islay Community Noticeboard Facebook Page it was announced that Ardbeg distillery has had to close until Tuesday 31st August because a member of their staff has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
Taynuilt near Oban has had an outbreak with most of the local rugby team and staff in a local hotel testing positive for the Covid-19 virus.
Why has the Argyll and Bute Council area been so badly hit with a high number of positive Covid-19 cases in a rural part of Scotland.
The answers to me are obvious. This summer people are travelling to the Argyll and Bute Council area from all parts of the U.K. for their annual holiday instead of normally going abroad and the greatly increased number of tourists is causing the Covid-19 virus to spread like wildfire.
After this weekend the number of positive Covid-19 cases in the Argyll and Bute Council area will likely start to fall as the main tourist season will be over.
I believe that the Covid-19 vaccines have been rushed out too quickly with production starting in November 2020 before the Kent variant and Indian Variant of the Covid-19 virus had been mentioned and arrived in the U.K.. They might be suitable for dealing with the first Covid-19 virus which arrived in the U.K. in February/ March 2020 but they are no use in stopping the spread of the virulent Indian variant which is also known as the Delta variant.
I enclose the pipeline of drugs under development from the Astra Zeneca websites at 20th July 2021. . https://www.astrazeneca.com/our-ther.../pipeline.html
These drugs normally take about ten years from the start of their development until after extensive clinical trials they are passed safe for use by the general public.

Thank you for your post.
In the Astra Zeneca annual reports there as often details of the drugs that have not made it past the initial development stage.
I am also a member of a Next Door forum in Dundee. Last January 2021 two members who had previously worked from Drug Development companies in Dundee were threatened with expulsion from the Next Door site because they had posted that the Covid-19 vaccines had been rushed through too quickly. They stated that new drugs being cleared by the relevant authorities for use by the general public took ten years to go through the various states of development and trials.
The Mods on that site accused these posters of scaremongering and spreading mis information.
Over 35,000 new positive Covid-19 cases per day throughout the U.K. when 76.9% of the U.K. population have received both their Covid-19 vaccinations means that Covid-19 vaccines are not stopping the spread of the Covid-19 virus throughout the U.K. and other parts of the world. Even Israel with high double vaccinated rates of their population are having a problem with an increasing number of new positive Covid-19 cases every day.
The Covid-19 virus is no longer headline news as the fiasco in Afghanistan has kicked it off the top spot in news reports.
The health authorities should have made sure that people are being vaccinated with a vaccine that prevents them getting the Indian (Delta) variant of the Covid-19 virus after both vaccinations which is not happening. Over 38,000 new positive Covid-19 virus cases in the U.K. the last 24 hours with 6,835 new positive Covid-19 virus cases in Scotland in the last 24 hours shows that the current vaccines are not fit for purpose despite what the health experts try to tell us.
If the Covid-19 vaccines were working they would have reduced the number of new positive cases throughout the U.K. down to the hundreds and falling fast with little or no deaths as everyone who had received both doses are now fully protected.
I would not be surprised to see the number of new positive Covid-19 virus cases shoot up next month when thousands of students return to Dundee for the start of their academic year.
In my opinion there is no point pumping our arms full of a Covid-19 vaccine which went into production before the Kent variant and Indian variants were discovered and arrived in the U.K.
I was reading the article about Leigh Griffiths on the Scottish Sun website where I noticed an article about the health authorities urging people to get vaccinated before this Sunday’s Old Firm match.
Whilst this is commendable it is not going to make any difference as the Health ‘experts’ tell us that it takes three weeks before the first dose of the vaccine gives a person some protection against the Covid-19 virus.
I wish that the companies producing the Covid-19 vaccines would come clean and tell us the truth about their vaccines and if they are giving full protection against the Indian variant.
This is probably the third or fourth time, but I will tell you again, maybe some of it might sink in....
THE VACCINE WONT GIVE IMMUNITY AGAINST ANY VARIANT,WHETHER ITS THE ALPHA,BETA,CHARLIE OR DELTA VARIANT. IT WONT STOP YOU GETTING IT.
It will however make the symptoms less severe in most instances, reducing the chance of death or hospitalisation.
The vaccine makers have been absolutely clear on this from the start, governments have been clear on this from the start, everyone apart from you seems to know this.
If that is the case then there is no point shutting down the country. As previously stated on this forum for well over a year the Covid-19 virus should have been left to run its course.
In my opinion the drug companies should have waited until they had a vaccine that fully protected people against the Alpha Beta and particularly the Delta (Indian) strain of the virus.
The drug companies have produced a vaccine to prevent people getting Polio, Smallpox and MMR but the development and production of these vaccines have not been rushed through.
