I know exactly what you mean Swiss, but you were lucky, I was a fireman for 14 years in Burnley and we copped it down Stoneyholme on a regular basis, I then transferred to Nelson and thought I'd escaped this regular racist abuse, but the first shout down Brierfield soon disavowed me of this fanciful idea.

Mind you, sinkov, in the Fire Service, just like my sone in the London Ambulance Service, you represented the authorities in many peoples' eyes, therefore you were a legitimate target for whatever point they wished to make. I don't know about representing authority Sub, maybe, but they did seem keen to make the point that we were 'foreigners' in 'their' area and so not welcome. I got the strong impression that the colour of my skin had something to do with it as well. There was one lad of Asian origin worked on the Retained at Nelson, when he was with us we never encountered a problem.
