No, I think he interviewed IB and asks some reasonably good questions. The other bloke was hopeless.

If I were a chairman of a Championship club I’d be watching how Notts/Burchnall progress very closely. I’m not sure L2 or L1 clubs would have the infrastructure to attract Burchnall.

I look forward to his interviews every week. Also, he doesn’t just answer in sound bites and cliches, or if he does he apologises for it before providing a really insightful answer.

I think it speaks volumes with everything that’s happening around the club right now. Long may it last.

I see where you’re coming from but there are some really big clubs in league one.

It’s nice to see so many people getting behind IB, and I’m also impressed, but let’s not get carried away…the signs are good but he has achieved nothing so far, and if he doesn’t get Notts County promoted this year then these chairmen from the higher echelons will (rightly?) see his year as a failure.

I’m trying to think of who in L1? Sunderland, from the outside looking in, they don’t seem very forward thinking. Maybe a Wigan, Ipswich. But they would need to allow Burchnall free reign to implement his ideas and visions. When he arrived at Notts the structure had already been implemented and we needed a coach/manager that complimented our set up. I believe there were other clubs interested in Burchnall before Notts appointed him, this is one of the reason Notts acted when they did. Burchnall saw Notts as an attractive proposition. I genuinely believe he’s even more excited by Notts now than when he started. I think it would take one hell of an offer to pull him away from Notts - not just financial.

I disagree re promotion or failure. I’m not saying that’s Burchnall’s view, to the contrary, he’s acknowledged that is success. In a league, covered lots already, where there is only one automatic promotion spot and clubs have spent small fortunes. Automatic promotion will be one hell of an achievement. We could finish 2nd or 3rd, reasonable achievement in my book. Then fall victim to an horrendous refereeing decision that halts our progress in the playoffs. This wouldn’t reflect badly on Burchnall, in my opinion.

    I agree.

He's obviously very knowledgeable on how the game can be played. I like that he can spot these patterns, and adapt during the game to what we need to win, rather than get sucked into the emotional side. He is obviously very clear on what he wants to achieve within the style of play, and has the awareness and confidence to adapt to what is in front of him.

Great skills to have. Let's see how it plays out over the season.

The emotional comment is a great note. Looking at it from the perspective of his players, they know if he makes change prior to or during the game he’s doing so because he believes that’s what’s needed to win the game. This reduces the chance of players sulking or falling out with him. He does what he needs to do, as you pointed out, without emotion.

Playing the style of football Notts do, under IB, I think we need the type of players who do not get phased by going one maybe two goals behind. In Wootton, Roberts and Rodrigues we have players who can score goals from inside, and outside the box and two of the three are very good with their head as well, so we can score goals from most scenarios which does help us massively should we fall behind. We are also becoming a threat from set pieces now, which has not been the case for a long while. I have never previously taken as much interest in tactics and formations as I do now since IB took over this football club.
