Or can anyone inform me why our PM, who is also ironically a proven liar, would say this about our energy bills?

    Genuinely interested to hear
To present high gas prices as a consequence of Brexit and to in anyway believe remaining would have protected the UK is eyewash. No idea what the 'EU internal energy market' actually brings to the party (do you?) but I do know individual states all have their own fuel policies. I do know prices for the EU have risen by around 300% and they too have low stocks. France is less affected as they have a much larger proportion of their energy nuclear sourced.Good dea?

Still I am sure EU citizens will rest easy in their beds knowing that EU Energy Ministers are going to have a meeting.

I don't know enough about it to say whether Brexit has or hasn't impacted energy prices. I just know we were told by our PM we would have cheaper energy prices because of Brexit.

So I guess this is either a lie or he is incompetent. Which one is it?

That you 'didn't know enough about it' didn't prevent you and millions of others (my eldest and daughter-in-law are 2) just waiting for something, anything, to go wrong and jump on the blame Brexit bandwagon. Which were you incompetent or lying?

I think the Govt might claim they did reduced fuel prices by being the first to introduce a price cap (Labour idea.) Blaming the govt in these extraordinary times would be like blaming them for the economy struggling after Covid.

It actually wasn't me, or any other Remainer, that brought Brexit into the energy prices debate. It was Boris Johnson himself.

So, I'm really struggling to see your point.

The Goverrnment told us explicitly we would have cheaper energy prices because of Brexit. I'm asking where our Brexit benefits are just in relation to this particular example. That's a fair question.

If Brexit won't reduce our energy bills, as we were promised, then why not question that?

By the way, your eldest and daughter-in-law sound quite intelligent. They are questioning what benefits we were promised compared to what we are getting, from this Govt and our Minisiters. Instead of making excuses trying to justify this God awful mess we voted in favour of. Sounds like you should consider their way of thinking to me.

The cretinous nature of your last paragraph has decided me not to continue this 'debate.' You'll be telling me next I'm stupid, racist, and evil!

Feel free to continue to bury your head in the sand and make excuses, all in the name of your political ideology. And then because you can't justify anything with reasoned debate, pull out the old 'you just think I'm stupid, racist etc...'

I'm just asking a fair question, which no one can answer.

Enjoy those Brexit benefits of yours.

And one final thing that does my absolute t1ts in, is the government getting a free pass on the economy because of Covid.

They advocated and put us through this damaging Brexit mess. They decided to spend £37bn on a failed track and trace system. They are responsible for giving their friends PPE contracts that cost the country billions.

Covid does not absolve them of all fiscal responsibility for damaging decisions they have taken in the last 18 months.

They are a disgrace of a Government.

Germany have got a bigger problem with this gas issue than we have!

Forgive me for saying, but my assumption was that Germany were still in the Eu?

    For the benefit of Mick,

    Interesting article below;

Did you mean Germany have a bigger problem in terms of the environment? Because their gas prices are much cheaper than ours..

    https://news.sky.com/story/energy-cr...bours-12413057

After Brexit, the UK left the European Union's Internal Energy Market, and there's little doubt that the supply process, between Britain and the EU, is now more clunky than it was before.

    (Cont'd)

France, for instance, isn't suffering in the same way because a great deal of its power comes from its own nuclear power stations.

Norway and Sweden generate lots of hydroelectric power; in Portugal, half of the energy supply comes from water or wind.

Germany tends to avoid problems because it's burning a huge amount of coal. Ditto in Poland, for example.

That's quite handy for the security of supply, albeit it's very bad for the environment
