Charlie just reiterated my view that these players are being asked to play a style of football that they are not good enough to do with any sort of consistency. It's not effective.

I don't blame IB this time, but GK+5+holding mid is the most you can pick really
With all three of our senior orthodox central defenders missing, today was/is always going to be difficult, but if the choice for IB is between 5-3-2 and 4-3-3, which seem to be his two preferred systems, then I think 4-3-3 has looked much the better one so far this season.

Even before Lacey went out, he probably didn't want to leave him, Patterson, Brennan as the central defence...
Yeah, it would've been super-brave to go with a back 4 today with all those regulars out - but we can say now that his back 5 didn't work and he's probably going to have to go 4-3-3 to get anything out of the game now

1-0 at HT. Their keeper not had a save to make yet.

Changes needed for the second half methinks.

I'd agree. Largely because DKE is not a wing back at all. The problem is, who do you play at CB in a 4 today? Chicksen or Brindley? Neither are up to it IMO.

A few shots off target but none on it. Chit or bust 2nd half. With a depleted squad, we may as well.

Yep. Got to go to a more attacking formation and get the ball forward quicker whether it goes along the grass or in the air, otherwise we're inviting trouble. We could still come a cropper because of the sheer lack of first-choice defensive personnel, but we might as well have a proper go and see what happens.
