It's funny how a few negative comments have been construed as being down to 'something in the water', but when they come home to roost the response is rather 'diluted'!

I'm as gutted by today as the next fan, but you could see this one coming...
We're going to see what they're made of now. If feels like the battle for play off places is here already. Every match counts

The pitches were awful including ones in the top level of the old First Division. This made the game so slow compared to anything in 1990s onwards.

It was amateurish on so many levels but I'm sure at the time lots of fun.

I did 7/2 and that had nothing to do with YAPs

I was watching this one recently. The quality of the play is great considering the pitch

The one I saw was at the baseball ground, the Derby side obviously were great back then , very talented, but the game looked so slow compared to nowadays. Must have been mid-winter.

Really? The game back then was mainly end to end with lots of goalmouth action. All this backwards and sideways passing and farting around your own penalty area just didn't happen, whether your team was at the bottom or the top. You obviously haven't witnessed much of our 'attractive passing game' from the back. That's what I would call slow.

Yes really. Tbf the pitch looked like the Somme, so did the players no favours. It wasn't the infamous 'paint the penalty spot' game but it was very similar. It was a real grind.

As you will remember this was one of the very best sides in the country and they were playing on a farmer's field#bobblecity. The players didn't have a chance tbh. Farmers fields, one sub, magic sponge and bucket of water and next to no football shown on TV. The game has certainly changed and then some.

Barcelona circa 2008 onwards can easily be described as slow and considered (the current Man City side the same) and you didn't hear many call it dull although they may have said tippy tappy lol.

The big difference is that Barcelona and Man City were winning many titles with that approach. If it works, as it clearly did for them, you wouldn't expect many of their fans to call it dull.

The problem I have is that we're trying to emulate them, but we've just been stuffed at home by Woking.

You'll have to join the dots yourself.

Oh I wasn't talking about Notts like you now are. Sorry buddy but there aren't enough dots to join them up.

I was talking about football back in the day 60/70s both on the pitch and behind the scenes compared with football of today.

See earlier in the thread for multiple posts on the subject (pitches, tackles, diving, unqualified physios, nutrition, fitter, stronger, faster).

I understand lots of Notts/football based subjects all happening at the same time.

    Marvellous
