Can't call it a "positive spin" because there is no positive spin to be made for losing a game we should've won.
But we _were_ winning the game, and scored two goals... which is enough to win the overwhelming majority of football matches.
Then our defence caved. We have our best defenders injured so I'd say if we aren't plagued by injuries this badly the rest of the season we should be doing a lot better.
But it's also fair to say we haven't managed this injury situation successfully at all and a bit of a rethink would be well justified. Every winnable game we lose, our odds of getting promoted this season diminish, which is sad because on the attacking front we look good right now.
There isn't any positive spin but if you accept that we are not promotion contenders then the defeat doesn't matter that much. I don't think we are in a relegation battle yet.
Here’s something positive...don’t recruit untried youngsters to do an experienced player’s job.
... putting aside the emotional upset of defeat, we should learn from bringing in inexperienced loan players.
We should also learn from the lack of professionalism we showed in dealing with 10 men. However, we are not alone in that. It's almost universal that when a player is sent off, the remaining 10 feel aggrieved and up their game +10%; hey presto, the 11 man team don't cope with the extra energy of the 10. This has happened many times within many games over football history.
Somewhere in the coaching manual will be a section on attitude when playing against 10 men ...
After an awful embarrassing and IMO having listened to the commentary unforgivable defeat it's often best to sleep on it and post your thoughts the next morning. This way you avoid posting anything too embarrassing like Big Bob has. He was an absolute roll last night very entertaining![]()
The only positive for me is the absence of a Burchnall In/Out? Or more accurately Burchnall Out!!! thread. I was half expecting it after 3 straight defeats and it is October after all
Although I'm sure there are some posts calling for a new Notts manager. Like we had last season, and the one before and the one before that. But no designated thread being created is an NCM specific positive.
Sorry that's the best I can do after the debacle last night.
I think you’ll find the FNQ input has raised the IQ level considerably.
Well Laddo I have slept on it and I am not inclined to call for IB's head partly because I am not sure that we could attract anyone better for the job, because recent history suggests that changing the manager/head coach regularly is highly flawed, and I actually think that he might be able to turn things around. We played good football for the most part last night. At 2-0 we had so many chances to seal it with a 3rd, what looked like a good penalty shout ignored and a goal disallowed for reasons unknown to me. They had 3 attacks in the last 20 minutes and scored every time. So the problem is holding onto winning positions and for once I think that if Neal Ardley could have been flown in to manage the last 20 minutes we would have come away with the points. IB was naive with his substitutions, BUT even so we clearly have shortfalls in the squad which must be addressed. We need a thug in midfield, we need full-backs or wing-backs that can effectively close down the opposition wingers, we need players to play for the team and not just themselves, and we need an attitude upgrade on the field. Not sure we can do all of those things quickly enough to turn us into contenders this season, but starting on a suitable program of evolution now is way preferable to changing the cast of characters yet again.
