    Match Ratings @ Halifax Town

Patterson 5 - Turning point of the game really when he flapped at that drive to his near post
Brindley 6 - Solid enough, looked injured as he game off
Brennan 5 - wasn't helped by IB's time wasting strategy. stopping playing at 70mins means something else for him.
Lacey 7 - Good game, but was complicit in all the time-wasting, chances missed to show leadership and drive forward
Chicksen 7 - Defended stoutly, was one of the reasons we were 0-2 up
Palmer 6 - Looks good, but that's not the same as having an impact on winning, goals, assists, leadership
O'Brien 6 - Had a good 25 mins after the break. Ball retention/pass completion always an issue
Roberts 6 - Looks to be returning to his old self, but could have been more clinical in good positions
Rodrigues 8 - Clear MoM. Should never have been taken off
Nemane 5 - A liability really. Worked hard but struggled to do anything right
Wootton 4 - No goal threat at all, very little comes off for him. Appreciate the battling, but they had him well under control

    Subs
DKE 6 - did alright, one who did try to drive us forward
    Mitchell 4 - didn't contribute
Sam 6 - Not on for long, did get on the ball, had a good effort on goal

IB 3 - see Being Brave post

Patterson 4 - Gave it away 3 times in the first half from his hands/feet. Should have stopped their first goal at his near post.

Brindley 6 - Did well, we fell apart on his side when DKE came on.

Lacey 6 - Played well and also scored but part of the capitulation therfore goes down a mark.

Brennan 5 - Did ok but weak at the end.

Chicksen 6 - Did his job and feel like he's one of the only ones who can actually defend in this team.

Palmer 5 - Was there, that's about it. Did what he's meant to do but no real impact on the game.

JOB 7 - Don't care what anyone says about him, always works hard and really did make some good tackles last night. We wouldn't have been 2 up without his defensive work. Not his fault recruitment has been so poor.

Roberts 5 - Nearly a 6 as did okay in patches and was against 2 defenders but too greedy again and should pass more instead of trying to walk it round 2 or 3 players.

Ruben 8 - MOM really was a threat most game and great goal. He was getting tired though (even a little lad called it next to us 5 mins before he went off as he was obviously getting tired) and his substitution wasn't the reason we fell apart.

Nemane 5 - Tried but looked lost whether that was the formation or the night wasn't his. He did put some effort in though.

Wootton 5 - Did some good hold up play and got nothing all night from the ref but we had plenty of crosses and corner second half and never was on the end of them.

    Subs:

DKE 3 - Absolute tripe in defence, wait till you see the first 2 Halifax goals, weak and positioning poor. He was the wrong substitution as they were putting big men upfront then and he got owned.

    Mitchell 4 - Didn't do owte.

Sam 5 - Had a good shot and that was about it.

Burchnall 4 - Not sure the subs were the right ones.

Not too far away from mine CF. Yeah, closer inspection might not be good for DKE. At the time I thought they were in Brennan's area of responsibility...
I feel sorry for Brennan, last night was really cruel on him. He might've scored the clinching goal for the winning side. And he did acquit himself well for most of the game

True. Only another 100+ points to play for. Might as well just jack it in now.

I'd go pretty much with this

Although DKE would get a 1
Terrible defending for first goal, backing off and inviting the man to shoot instead of showing him outside onto the players weaker foot and equally as bad for the second
    Keeper should have done better

Really bad substitutions by IB, DKE and Sam offer nothing. Brindley looked injured after having a decent game
Both full backs were being doubled up on all the time and getting very little help from lads in front
I thought Palmer and JOB tried to get about them but can't expect 2 players to do 4 men's work
This for me is where Notts are so vulnerable
The full backs or wide defenders have no protection in front of them
The wingers/wide forwards are great going forward but terrible at defensive work

Halifax ran constantly for 70 mins then smelt blood when they got one back. They looked like they could have done another 90 minutes at the end of the game
Notts players looked knackered after 65 minutes
Isn't the passing game supposed to tire the opposition? Not the team doing it

All in all me and my daughter were so disappointed at the end but she's convinced my to book tickets for Sat
    Huish Park it is then

That comment re the players looking tired after 65 minutes echoes some from the Woking game on Saturday. Don't know if that's a physical or a mental thing, but there's absolutely no way we should be struggling physically given all the data the management have about how much players run per game. Or maybe we're running ourselves into the ground by getting the front players to run around a lot but never actually getting the ball to them.

The one thing you can be guaranteed from most teams at this level is hard graft. If we can't match that, our problems are even bigger than I thought.

I have a question for any of you that were at the match and it's a purely selfish one. Listening in it sounded like the game actually turned after Halifax brought on Warburton and Newby. For those of you that did read my match preview you will know that I put a lot of emphasis on what an impact Warburton has on the current Halifax team. He missed their game at Barnet through injury and they came away with a 0-0 draw. Up until the sending off yesterday Notts appeared to be well in control but that control diminished after the Halifax subs, and Warburton, as far as I'm aware had a hand in at least two of the goals.

Can someone who was there let me know if that sounds about right? I did quite a bit of scouting before this game which ended up in the preview and just wanting to see if I can take some solace from the fact my comments had some merit.
