Allan Clarke , Norman Hunter, Danny Wilson .All 3 brought a good feeling to the club , and some great football too ★★★

I can't get overwhelmed by us appointing somebody who I know absolutely nothing about. Thats not the coaches fault of course, but it is a fact.

And I think even Danny Wilson was an unpopular choice at first wasn't he, because I remember him regularly getting boo'ed.

And why have they picked this bloke based on his pressing style, when Schopp was apparently told to drop it because it didn't make them enough money ?. 😬

Interestingly Roma two out of those three were promoted from within the club which is always frowned upon by the masses as a cheap option , throw in Andy Ritchie & Paul Heckingbottom who were also successful after being promoted from within then we might have missed a trick, should have given the job to Disco !

Shad, I also thought spanker Spackman was a good choice at first. And I thought the same as well about Allan Clarke (the second time), Mel Machin, Dave Bassett, and Mark Robins.
Some of the managers who I wasn't happy about were Steve Parkin, Simon Davey, and Jose the clown. 😬

Stendel for me Pass. I had nothing to go on but gut feel following his initial interviews. Clarkey, Hunter, Wilson and robins otherwise. I thought Wilson might have done more in his second spell as well, but unfortunately he didn't.

Yes Arby, thinking about it I was well impressed too by Stendels ideology and vision when he was appointed.

The fact is though, in my 33 years as a fan we've had 24 managers and out of those I honestly was only excited by the appointments of Anderson, Bassett, Spackman and Robins.

That tells you this club has mostly underwhelmed us over the years.

As has been mentioned by Shadrack, our appointments from within have proven most successful. Wilson, Ritchie, Hunter, Hecky all won promotion and gave us some great times. Must be summat in it!

To be honest i liked Mel Machin , thought Robins was hard done by & I enjoyed Bassett"s time , he at least allowed me to see my club for the 1st time at the twin towers which at the time I had been watching the Reds for about 40 years & a trip to wembley was just a dream , Allan Clarke was a disappointment being that I worshipped him after his first stint , I thought Davey wasn"t as bad as he has been painted ,he brought me some great memories , Parkin was a let down & Jose actually was only 5 minutes off keeping us up but was barking mad.

I forgot to say as well, that I was excited about the Viv Anderson & Wilson appointment at first.

Clarkey really had his hands tied in the mid 80s, with finances being low and having to sell players like David Hirst and Larry May cheaply to the Fowls.

Ane one appointment from within that I did't want to see was John Hendrie!.

Mel Machin didn't get the credit he fully deserved , he also helped stabilise the club, and did the groundwork for the upsurge in the club's fortunes " ooooh Gerry Gerry " etc etc

I'll never forget how good we were in 90-91 under Mel, and Oakwell became a fortress of a ground again, that nobody else liked visiting.
Sadly, he kind of threw it away the following year after we'd sold both Tiler & Agnew.
And his eventual resignation came as no surprise or disappointment.
