There needs to be more detail than this.
The Cryne family have said they are willing to sell their 50% of the ground.
Barnsley Council are a sleeping partner and hold the other 50% to ensure football is retained at Oakwell.
So then - what are the complications relating to ‘clean title’ ???
Does that mean that PMG want 100% ownership of the ground - because if that’s the case I know that most supporters would be against that idea for a couple of reasons:
1) it goes against the legacy left by Patrick Cryne.
2) Supporters will not trust any company to fully own the ground as there could be a risk that the land could be used for other purposes other than football.
The council need to hold out on this and keep their 50%.
But what is stopping an agreement being drawn up that allows for:
1) PMG to purchase the 50% from the Crynes.
2) Pay a peppercorn annual rent for a period of say 99 years to the council for their 50% - ie gain ownership of the ground on a half free hold and half lease hold basis.
3) PMG to develop the ground in the knowledge that any future money made from the sale of the ground returns to PMG.
Complicated - but surely something on those lines could be drawn up.
