    The Beatles Get Back

Further to Philds thread on McCartney, what do people think of Peter Jackson's renewed take on Let It Be? I must confess that I've been a bit of a Beatles fan since I first heard them as a kid. The original Let it be movie was not an enjoyable one and coloured most people's perception of the band breaking up and the fractured relationships between them all (even though they then went on to record and release Abbey Road whilst waiting for the final edits). The new doc. gives a more balanced view and Jackson has managed to greatly enhance the original picture quality which is really superb. The length of the whole thing -at nearly 3 hours per episode!!- means that much of this is for die hard fans only though and the first 2 are really hard going showing a miserable situation and lots of aimless doodling. The last episode however is far more joyfully and shows the "magic" that can happen between them still and culminates in the famous roof top concert. The songs are not all great but the atmosphere improves greatly once they relocate to Seville Row, George is happier and the introduction of both Billy Preston on keyboards and Linda's young daughter, Heather, all lift the mood.If you have Disney ( or like me, can piggy back someone's account&#128512 and you have a passing interest, I would check out the last episode.

I thought it was pretty good .... although sitting through three films lasting about 5-6 hours in total was an effort. For me it brought out some new twists and dispelled a few myths. Apart from one or two sulks from George or John, the band still got on well and retained the humour and sense of fun they always had - contrary to the portrayal that they were at each other’s throats all the time. Showed McCartney was the real driving force in the later years - although George was more influential than oft portrayed. Loved how they all came across as everyday guys - despite being four of the most famous people on the planet - treating everyone around them with respect. Liked the intro of Billy Preston who was effectively the fifth Beatle according to John.

I think you have to be a Beatles fan to appreciate the film ..... but I really enjoyed it.

I haven't watched this yet but I've heard lots of rave reviews on it, especially that last episode as you mention.

I think there's something very special about these sorts of historical records that show the initial conception and embryo of songs that then become part of the fabric of our lives.

I'm sure our own songsmith Boingy will have thoughts on this topic.
