Nice one. Regardless of goals he's a much better player than what we currently have up front which to be frank has been shocking. Genuinely cant see what is a negative about this signing, are people just assuming we are paying over the odds for him? A step in the right direction and 27/28 is a good age imo.

^^^ this all day long, I’ve never really been a fan of Tony Watt but, compared to what we have up front now I’d welcome him at Tannadice in a heartbeat, what I’ve seen of him this season is encouraging as he’s been putting himself about and getting right in about teams, and that is what we are lacking at the moment. Who knows, he might even bring the best out of Clark and if he does it’ll be like getting two players for the price of one.

I'm surprised our recruitment team signed off on this one. There are a few rules when it comes to analysis - new sign someone who has had a great major tournament, you will always overpay (not that this will ever effect United), you don't sign someone based on a few good months and something a lot of people are beginning to realise is that strikers peak at a much earlier age these days (24-26 compared to 28-30)
This is the point I'm making, there's sod-all out there. Watt-type signings are as good as it gets. He scores half a dozen goals in November and folk are getting halfies.
But 7 goals in 40 games at M'well last season, 10 goals from 24 games this season. Even our Nicky can do that. And as Back Row says if Watt's declined what M'well have offered he'll be getting more here & I doubt he's worth £3k/week.
I think we've got better here with Mark McNulty & who knows, even Biamou if he ever proves his existence.

I remember thinking after the game at Tannadice he was annoying and a nuisance to our defence who could make the ball stick, but then again maybe Motherwell being more direct plays to his strengths, if he gets isolated like Clark I'm not sure he has pace to get in behind, and I'm always a bit wary about signing someone on the back of hot streak however. I think like said he would probably still improve our team, but probably more of a foil for other players and not someone who will bang in 20 goals a season on a regular basis.

Would rather have Tony Watt in a tangerine jersey than fecking McNulty (who’s done the square root of hee haw in two years!!!!!)

That’s the problem, they’re both wage thieves

Get a good local lad in, there has to be someone hungry, decent and available if our scouts are halfway capable

Reeks of someone putting in the effort in the last year of his contract to get a move to a bigger club!

Hope im wrong and he picks up with us where he left off at Well.

I'd be very happy with this for several reasons. The game has changed now and teams no longer rely on one striker to score all the goals.

We've been powder puff and I've been saying for some time we need to sign some bigger stronger aggressive players. Ryan Edwards fitted that, Mulgrew to some extent, McMann although not the tallest has brought that to our left side. Freeman has brought massive energy and aggression on the right. Watt will bring that up front and in addition to scoring goals using his own capability will be strong enough to hold the ball up and bring others into it. That will benefit a strike partner greatly.

    Midfield next please.

There is that, and also a slight concern about the number of clubs he's had but hopefully he'll settle at Tannadice and have his best career stats with us.
