Ian Burchnall has revealed that there are several Covid-19 cases in the camp ahead of Sunday’s visit of Wrexham.

The head coach will be missing a number of players when we host our promotion rivals but says the club is doing all it can to ensure the fixture goes ahead.

“Sadly, we do have some cases within the squad and staff,” said the boss this afternoon. “We’re very thin on the ground right now, which is really disappointing, but we’re doing everything we possibly can to ensure the game’s on."

When asked whether the club were actively choosing not to request a postponement, Burchnall said: “Based on what we’ve got now we could probably request for the game to be called off, but I feel quite strongly that if we have sufficient players available we should try to play.

“In my opinion, clubs have a duty to do everything they can to protect the integrity of the league. I don’t know if that’s always going to be the case across the board and we have to accept that sometimes a postponement is unavoidable, but as long as teams are really working hard to get the games on that’s the most important thing.

“We’re being extremely careful to prevent any further cases in the small group we’ve got to ensure we have as many available for the weekend as possible.

“We’re testing every day and, of course, if we have more cases before the weekend we’re going to be in big trouble.

“But we’ve got a strong squad and I believe our strength in depth can shine through this weekend and throughout the rest of the season. I really want to play the game – we’ll see what the rest of the week brings.”

So how many cases, and exactly who is involved? Until we know that, we don't know whether postponement is a good or bad idea. We don't want to play with a weakened team, but we don't want to drop down the table and face a backlog of fixtures.

My guess is that I'll be watching the racing on Sunday afternoon, so how many YAPs do I get for a P-P forecast?
