We have completed the signing of Sheffield United midfielder Zak Brunt on loan until the end of the season.

Brunt, 20, is a product of the Blades’ academy and is fresh from a tremendously successful loan spell at our fellow National League side Southend United, who he joined at the end of August having played 90 minutes in United’s EFL Cup victories over Carlisle and Derby at Bramall Lane.

And Ian Burchnall believes Brunt will give us a huge boost as we head into the second half of the season.

“Zak’s someone we’ve had our eye on for a while,” revealed the head coach. “He played against us for Southend a few weeks ago, which gave us a chance to take a look at him up close, and his performance only reaffirmed our thoughts that he’s a quality player with a bright future.

“He is very, very technical and can play the holding role, as a number-eight or off a centre forward, so adds depth in the midfield area which will be crucial given the Covid situation and the many important games we have coming up.”

Brunt, who will not be eligible for Buildbase FA Trophy matches having featured in the competition for Southend, will wear squad number 27.

An interview with him will follow later today.

Quite excited by this signing, despite it only being a loan. Fingers crossed he shines at Notts.

Mmm lets hope so. Apparently left Derby academy for Matlock to get some games in (Matlock Pie has reffed him and chatted to him a fair bit). Nice lad who likes to pass the ball, will fit in with our style, and is very ambitious.

He played alongside my grandson at both Villa & Derby......Observation by my grandson's dad :

"Zak’s a very technical player but he’s not the biggest or fastest. He is a very good player though and tailors his game to suit. If the loan deals the same as his last one Sheffield United will be paying his wages if he’s played, but County will have to pay him if he’s not used.
I’ve messaged his dad so if I get any more info. I’ll let you know"
