I never thought about this until 2 seasons ago when Van Dyke, yelled to one of his players to take a free kick left footed from the wide right about 25 yards out. Van Dyke promptly scored. I think its got something to do with having to turn towards goal to defend it.
Yup - for the same reason never quite understood what the in-swinging whipped corner went out of fashion - it’s pretty lethal as just need to get a decent touch on the ball and it’s hard to stop.
