Truly hope that you are right. I have felt for a long while that the biggest issue in this country is the ever growing divide between rich and poor and how the top very few percent own such a large proportion of the nations wealth. Maybe some of the issues brought to light by this pandemic might have opened people's eyes a bit more-but I doubt very much that things will change as the majority are simply too apathetic (as others on here have noted).
The top echelons of the Tory Party have no real understanding of the challenges "ordinary" people face and tbh I don't think they even really care. No one sane would want a return to the bad old days of the 70s with over-powerful unions hamstringing industry but De-nationalizing certain sectors just made rich individuals richer as they took on these newly privatised companies and were then later allowed to make even more profit by selling off even key utilitiy companies to foreign investors. This took money out of the country as well as arguably creating a risk to the UK but as long as these people could put more money into their off shore accounts who cares.
The same old issues over affordable housing, a living wage and the state of the Nhs and education system persist as they did decades ago. Sadly though most will still be deflected by stories about illegal immigrants or benefit cheats (or Corrie/Eastenders 😄and not see the true crime behind all this. As for the millions wasted on HS2 and the various failed military contracts that have come to light recently this beggars belief too. If only we had a decent opposition party we might have chance. Sadly, you need both time and money to get into politics and this naturally excludes the vast majority of ordinary working people so you are left with those who are independently wealthy or else those who are sponsored by the unions. There are exceptions but not many. Can't see how this will change though and is just part and parcel of western democracy-though still better than the alternatives. Hey ho, "Power to the people!" as Wolfie Smith used to say🙄
