Joking apart mate, I do believe the drinking water plays a big part in many of today’s health issues including cancers and Alzheimer’s.

    F u c k it, pass me the whisky!

It’s also nothing to do with social standing either in regards to whether people turn nasty after a few drinks.

I had mates from council estates who were as daft as a brush after a few and knew people from the supposed higher echelons of society who were really horrible f u c k e r s after a few pints.

I don’t object to drink because I myself don’t enjoy it, my kids like an odd drink as does my wife but my son abstains because it lowers his defences against using substances, he found that a few beers and the “Devil’s Dandruff” went hand in hand.

Not that I’m suggesting any of our esteemed posters is rat a r s e d on Lidl vino and on all fours plowing through a pile of nasal candy! 🤣

Be interesting if anyone on here was brave enough to admit to using it though!?

Lack of eating good quality food can be more detrimental to the bodies organs than alcohol without going silly. Look at how many fat and obese people we have in the U.K. who eat tons of saturated fat food ie crisps -cake - burgers. Heart attacks abundance with big fatties and they do affect other people ie being squashed on planes etc. The lack of good quality food is a demographics issue too and with less educated people - you see all these obese people at seaside resorts chomping on fish and chips!

Will keep to a good bottle of red and quality food rather than burgers and cakes!

Unless it’s a health condition it’s cruel to see fat kids which is down to parents!

    So true Baggieal.

The stats for alcohol consumption per capita, last produced in 2016, don’t support the argument that we are that bad when compared to other countries across Europe.

We come out at 11.4 litres of alcohol per adult (15 and over)

That compares with Germany 13.4, Ireland 13.0, France 12.6, Portugal 12.3, Czech Rep 14.4, Belgium 12.1, Luxembourg 13.0 as well as Eastern European countries such as Moldova 15.2, Lithuania 15.0, Latvia 12.9, Russia 11.7, Romania 12.6 etc.

Good post Yarm! There are far more issues in the country with people eating crap or not eating quality food because of cost. Speak to any doctor and no doubt they will say alcoholism is no where near as bad as heart attacks due to being overweight and obese - the other issues to the organs too are numerous. In sensible proportions red wine can actually help - it’s a fact!

Exercise is the best course of action and was going to take up swimming or running and was informed that a complete fitness programme is the best option working on both the lower and upper body but not cheap.

The big problem as I see it is that drinking has been seen in this country as funny. If someone is drunk its viewed as even funnier. Its almost looked on as an achievement if you tell people "I didn't know where I was, no idea how I got home"
There aren't many more damaging problems for a family to have an alcoholic as a parent or child. Rips them apart. I almost feel sick when I see some folks filling their trolleys up with nothing but booze. I've had dear friends who fell out with me over it when I was trying to help them not have a dependency. I consider myself fortunate in the sense that I like a drink but have never wanted more than a couple of pints, and there can be a gap of weeks in between. There's a huge problem in this country, and unfortunately its actively encouraged with "Oh go on have another one it won't hurt"

I agree Boingy but nothing wrong with anything in moderation. I was even informed by a doctor that red wine in moderation can actually be good for you - many health experts say this!

Seeing trollies full of booze - how does someone know it’s not a party or special occasion!

Trollies full of saturated food ie crisps - chips - pies - pastry is worse! It should carry clear health warnings.

You don’t see that many educated professionals who are obese but then again they wouldn’t necessarily food shop in Asda or the Co-op etc. It’s a fact that healthier food and really fresh fruit is better in Waitrose and M and S.

How many big fatties do you see at the U.K. seaside chomping on fish and chips or pies! This could be more harmful than booze not taken in excess.

No problem with someone who is next to me who is drinking as long as they don’t puke. I do have a problem though on a plane especially if a big fatty takes a portion of your seat. Buy two seats FFS - only fair! More obese folk in the U.K. than anywhere from experience except for the USA. Self infliction unless a health issue puts an extra strain on the NHS and the waiting seats where in 2022 you can sit for five hours or more😭

Quite a lot of fat nurses and other hospital staff to be seen in Kettering General! Surprising.

Virgin Atlantic used to employ beauties but must can’t get down the aisle now! Some real beauties on Emirates though!
