    Unfortunately it isn’t though.
Each NHS member of staff can make their own mind up. I don't think there should be a covid vaccine mandate. They could have introduced a vaccine mandate as soon as the COVID vaccine became available, but they are now. I don't know why they didn't do so in 2020 or 2021. It's a puzzle.
If they do enforce the mandate they will be in a position to sack them so you've not got long wait for your wish to come true.

Do they currently have to have the flu jab to be able to work in the NHS ?

I don’t think they’ll enforce the mandate because even the psychopaths in charge can’t sack thousands of staff and hope no one notices the difference.

As you infer with your hypothetical scenarios, most of us would prefer unvaccinated staff to no staff at all.

it's terrible the questions we've been having to deal with. so difficult for all of us politicians too.

we have to have to find our own answers, as ever. I've been looking to the poets because I find that kind of contemplation calms my anxiety somewhat. came across this today:

    Good Bones

Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I’ve shortened mine
in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways,
    a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways
I’ll keep from my children. The world is at least
fifty percent terrible, and that’s a conservative
estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged,
sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world
is at least half terrible, and for every kind
stranger, there is one who would break you,
though I keep this from my children. I am trying
to sell them the world. Any decent realtor,
walking you through a real sh!thole, chirps on
about good bones: This place could be beautiful,
right? You could make this place beautiful

Seeing as you are asking hypothetical questions what would you do if your wife/ children went into hospital for a routine operation and a unvaccinated nurse/doctor gave them covid which put their lives in danger or worse?

    Poetry was, at one time,
lines the ended with a rhyme.
Now it seem's that's just not it,
you scribble down any old sh!t.
