I’ve seen some drunken knobs run into the pitch from time to time but today’s idiot wasn’t drunk unless it was drunk on Cow & Gate infant formula
But why are we surprised or shocked about this when in society as a whole has come to accept boorish behaviour?
Groups of kids causing anti social behaviour are common in every town and community, we see rent-a-mob pulling down statues, glueing themselves to motorways or chaining themselves to trees all in the knowledge that society will apologise for them and they get a minor or no punishment.
But it’s football, the great bandwagon to jump on, the arena where folks can exhibit mock indignation, a place where a derogatory remark is deemed more serious than thumping another fan or wrecking pub toilets.
Football needs to get a grip on this but so does the world outside the stadium.
