Well that was a tough but on occasions enlightening read. Some very good valid points made. Agree that since all the transfer talk it's clear Wootton and Rodders game have dropped off significantly and I'm sure the stats will back that up.

Wouldn't disagree a period on the bench for one of them would potentially be good for them and send the right message to the squad.

No need to apologise nw6pie, made me smile reading that. A lot of what MDS puts on here makes me laugh.

Regardless of the reason be it external interest, stop start nature of the season recently, loan players coming and disrupting things or a combination of all 3 it's clear a change is needed. I have IB as a brave manager, he's allowed to display favouritism to players, just as all supporters do, and when those players have historically delivered more often than not it's more than fair enough, but I will be very disappointed if things haven't been shaken up for the next game.

If we now have more fans wanting Eli Sam to start than has his contract terminated as was suggested by a few only a matter of weeks ago you know things have gone badly south recently.

    Desperate times, desperate measures?

IB knows what he's doing I back him to get back on track during a difficult period#playoffbound

I never saw this coming but we were totally outplayed in the 2nd half. The big shock to me was how IB was out thought and did very little to counter what was happening.
The midfield became none existent and we were still trying to play it out even though we were constantly boxed in and losing possesion in the middle of the pitch or around our box.
As IB said post match we needed to get behind them , so why didnt we try going long for a time.It would have stopped us being boxed in , stopped the press and enabled our midfield to get a foothold..
The positive was if we took our chances we could have been 3 up and they were out of it.
PS..Why do we not have one (if not two)players with pace upfront or in midfield giving us the option of countering from corners.? For an example how it pays dividends see Grimsby!

I see your point, BUT, who would we have knocked it long to? Statue Wootton? Ineffective Ruben? We are not overly blessed with pace or cute movement. Sam is very good when the ball is at his feet. I still don’t know what Mitchell’s strengths are.

I would love to see a forward come in who has pace to burn.

Grimsby had 2 of the slowest centre backs I have seen at the lane for some time and only Cal was able to take advantage (in the first 30 minutes)

They dominated the midfield to the extent where it looked like they had an extra man. The only surprise was that it took them so long to score. I keep hoping that my view of the game is outdated, and that pretty football could succeed in getting us back to where I think we belong. Today, the pretty footballers were taught a lesson by the less technically gifted players who simply wanted it more. Burchnall has to shoulder much of the blame, because we offered pretty poor opposition for over an hour. After 30 minutes we had no shape or pattern of play, basically we were chasing shadows. Nothing that he did changed it at all, so my worry is that when the chips are down we're just not as good as some think we are.
That's just what I said to my mate, how many players have they got on the pitch because they over ran us and were every where. The last 10 minutes of the first half was a warning that IB should have sorted out in the interval but we were worse second half.

I couldn't believe the space they gave us first half, but their manager changed it at half time and they played the high press and we couldn't cope, and not for the first time.

The irony is that IB moans about us not dealing with the low block. Now we struggle against the high press.
The thing about playing from the back as that you want a central midfielder with the ball rather than your centre backs. Watch the cup games today and you will see that the CB’s split and a central midfielder comes between the 2 and is the play maker. Problem is how do you split 3?

My thoughts too, having not seen them away recently I’ve been fortunate on the whole to see really good performances and didn’t realise we had this sort of performance in us. We r lacking a bit of pace but they didn’t really have any, we just lost all the battles all over the pitch. They were pressing ridiculously high off goal kicks but even if we went long I think it would have come straight back. Hopefully it’s a turning point, I think the ominous “Team meeting” needs to happen and they need to realise they could possibly throw away all the good work they had done before these three games.

Three games ago we seemed to be sitting pretty but now we appear to have a lot to do to secure a play off place.

Another good run starting with a morale boosting win on Tuesday will change that for the better. Hard for me to be wholly constructive as I don’t get to watch the games. Is there any merit in bringing in Brunt for Ruben and giving the latter chance to freshen up? Surprised that Vincent has been dropped to the bench as since he came into the side my concerns regarding the midfield had somewhat abated. From the commentaries I listen to I think he and Palmer work well together.

Not sure that Eli could do Kyle’s role but maybe worth giving it a go with the object again of allowing Wootton to have a bit of a rest. Can’t really believe I am being so positive about Sam as his hopeless cameo appearance in the home game v Wealdstone is the only time I have seen him play in the flesh. However great credit to the lad for knuckling down in the interim period. Only hope Mitchell can do the same because we do need all available options to freshen the team up and give the opposition something different to worry about over the coming important games.

Really? All I will say is that Bet365 see it rather differently. This is their rating of the top ten's chance of clinching the auto spot:

    Stockport 54.5%
    Chesterfield 28.6%
    Wrexham 10%
    Boreham Wood 9.1%
    Halifax 5.9%
    Bromley 4.8%
    Notts 3.9%
    Solihull 1.5%
    Grimsby 1.1%
    Dagenham & Redbridge 0.2%

This is what happens when we lose, the reverse when we win. There's still time if we can end the blip next game.
