Although I used to watch cricket with my Dad and quite enjoyed watching the likes of Viv Richards and Ian Botham I am not really a great fan of the game tbh but Shane Warne was impossible to ignore. An irrepressible personality and great bowler. Have just watched some of the clips of him on YouTube which reminded me of just how very good he was. No age to go.

Greatest bowler.

Greatest first ball of an Ashes career ever bowled.

Forget Muralitheran's figures, his action was illegal so he shouldn't even feature in lists of "Best Evers".

Watching Warne give a coaching class indoors on SKY a couple of years ago was amazing, watching him turn the ball a foot on a carpet off one stride told you all you needed to know about just how brilliant this bloke was at his craft.

What a 29 years the guy lived from that moment against Mike Getting in 1993, pure box office both on and off the pitch and he seemed to enjoy every moment.

How ironic that Rod Marsh has passed away this week as well, can you imagine Warne bowling and Marshy behind the timbers......talk about "dream team".

Thats their greatest ever bowler and their greatest ever wicketkeeper both gone in days.

The iconic moment Warne bowled out Gatting was made even more iconic by Dickie Bird being the umpire and Richie Benaud being on commentary...........wow.....this guy had one hell of a script writer. To have the best bowler of all time being officiated by the best umpire of all time and commentated on by the best commentator of all time in ANY sport!!

I will truly miss Warne on commentary, what a bloke, what a life.

Warner’s stats are amazing, but they don’t tell the story he took wickets in a team when all of the bowlers took wickets so he had less potential wickets to take, Murali and maybe one other bowler Vaas took all of the wickets which is why he accumulated so many

With the way I am on a personal level at the moment I’d find that a very hard watch BS, maybe a few months from now.

I’m finding the deaths of my icons a very emotional experience in recent times, ridiculous I know but it’s like losing a good friend in my headspace at present.

The only solace I can find in Shane’s death is the fact that there was no more to come, he’d bowled every great delivery he was ever going to bowl and they are on tape for all time.

Not like Jim Morrison dying at 27 or Jimmy Hendrix and to be left wondering what masterpiece would never get written and sung.

I feel unbelievably sad at this news, sad, sad, sad!

Yes, one of those players that can be termed as real class; the best spin bowler of all time. You mentioned in an earlier post, Mick, Muralitheran, or whatever his name is, he always had an illegal bowling action, in short, he was a ‘chucker’. The Sri Lankans, though, wouldn’t hear of any criticism of him though, didn’t they effectively use the race card when other countries labelled him as a chucker?

Get what you are saying there Mick....even recent footballers who have passed away....like the trio from leeds recently.....grew up with these guys ...listening to them on the radio commentary.......but the cricket broadcast of test match special.....will always be special place in my memory.....
