I used to have some of the albums of Yes in the seventies. Tales from Topographic Oceans was one, I also had a couple by Rick Wakeman.
There were some great groups around in the seventies, but there was also a lot of rubbish like The Osmonds, Bay City Rollers etc. It's the same as any decade, the acts you like are remembered just like the summers.
There were more poor and average summers in the seventies but because of 1975 followed by 1976 we imagined them to have all been scorchers. When we are young and happy we only remember the sunny days.
There were as many if not more hot summers in the nineties than the seventies.
