    Desire As Well As Ability.

I was just watching these highlights of Albion v Man Utd in 1980-81.

I refuse to believe that football today is played at a faster pace and with more ability, look at the way we move the ball around on a crappy pitch.

Look at the closing down and the desire and work rate of the entire team, the third goal in particular, Martyn Bennett's challenge past the half way line that sets up the third Albion goal.

I think I underrated Peter Barnes, being a Willie Johnston fan I never took to Barnes but looking back now, he had a lot of ability.

Check out the “Robbo” documtary on Prime on Bryan Robson

Fergie even states that in late seventies early eighties West Brom had a better team than Utd

Also didn’t realise Robbo broke his leg 3 times in one season with us

Watching it I so wanted him back with us (heart ruling the head for an hour)
What a hero for England he was, loved him

Watched this over the weekend, very insightful, brought some great memories back as well! I do think had Robbo been fit for the 86 and 90 world cups we would have won one.

Agreed 100%, Maradona definitely wouldn’t have scored that second goal

I watched a lot of old video of Albion yesterday.

My oh my, what a sublime player Derek Statham was, probably my second favourite all time player after Willie.

Batson as well, a great tackler and carrier of the ball.

Ally Rob and John Wile or Martyn Bennett, very little got past them.

It’s interesting to watch real defending, it’s so long since I’ve actually seen any.

Robbo broke his leg quite a few times. I saw one time at the Albion , he was only a youngster, billy bonds West Ham I believe. Stretcher on , player off. Robson was one tough nut. A REAL Academy worthwhile. When I compare the likes of Robbo with any of our academy players the gulf is a universe apart.
