First heard of Badfinger through their "Come and get it" single which was catchy enough although they obviously played it very much as McCartney directed them to. If I remember correctly they were signed by Apple and Pete Ham later went on to play on George Harrison's "All things must pass" album as well as playing with him on the "Concert for Bangladesh" where he played acoustic with Harrison on "Here comes the sun" amongst others. Both he and fellow bandmate, Tom Evans, obviously had talent but for some reason the band never made it big as they should have. Sadly both also had mental health issues and both men hanged themselves at quite young ages. Although Nilsson's vocal very much makes the song, Ham and Evans also wrote the classic "Without You" that gave him his biggest hit but neither lived long enough to enjoy the royalties.
