Let's not forget as well that the Russians took the brunt of German attacks and without the Russians we wouldn't have won the war. America would have stayed out if Japan hadn't bombed them and Hitler hadn't declared war on them.
I have no love for the Russians, I just look at things from a neutral point of view.
I don't get caught up in the hysteria that has plagued the human race since long before the Crusades.

A reasoned view indeed ..... but
It’s ok for us to take the moral high ground having the luxury to sit back and observe from afar and discuss in a civilised intellectual manner, a neutral point of view as you say.
Problem is how exactly do we stop someone like Putin, or Hitler. Debating? negotiating?, praying? submission?
As the saying goes, evil only prospers when good men just sit by and let it happen.
Putin is no more than a mafia gangster who sees appeasement as weakness.
The world has a real problem here make no mistake. Why and how we got here is can be debated and there are many reasons on both sides.
But hoping it will go away, taking a neutral stance, edging ones bets is the option for opportunists.
Problems need action.
