Sometimes people say our status as a big club for this league and with the shall we move grounds question the same. If you watch every new players interview they always say things like they'd be mad to turn down a club of Notts size, the stadium is amazing, the facilities are top class and crowds are good. It's a massive draw for us at this level. Now we just need the players and manager who can cope with the expectations and do the business against not just the smaller clubs but the big ones as well.

So the new manager doesn't get a say in signing players?

    He'll do as he's told.

I think the days when the manager was the sole decision-maker on signings have long gone at most football clubs. Unless the new manager is already identified and secretly having an input, the likelihood is that Ian Burchnall was probably part of a group of people involved in identifying this player before he even realised he'd be off to FGR, but it wouldn't just be his call. It would be a collective process involving a number of people which goes on continually, regardless of whether some personnel within the recruitment team change at any given time, so there's a reasonable degree of continuity in the overall strategy.

That doesn't bother me. In European football this has been the norm for years, and it's increasingly the case in British football too. It's not as though the old, completely manager-driven recruitment strategy did us any favours over the past two decades, lurching from one tactical extreme to the other and often carrying half a squad worth of players who were effectively unwanted by each new boss. The key test for me is whether the recruitment this summer addresses what we've been missing in terms of height and physicality, irrespective of which manager comes in next, and on face value TAR ticks some of those boxes.

Why can't some get their head around this? It's not uncommon for football clubs to be set up in this fashion.

It's the same for any new incoming manger in any form of business...these are your new colleagues/staff, do with them what you can, so the business will improve.

I'm enjoying Notts joining the 21st century at long last. They'll mostly come round eventually I suspect.

I still find it flabbergasting how many fans do not understand the recruitment / coaching / player policy its been explained about 8000 times. No brothers Reedtz are not signing players no the manager is not signing players yes we have a recruitment team analysing and signing players coach ( NOT MANAGER) coaches them and picks the team. Brothers Reedtz pay the bills and dictate policy. How hard is that to understand? If I can get it over here......

Of course coach will cast his eye over it but when there is no coach he can't can he and the show must go on. Who is to say that any potential incoming coach or even IB before he left is / has not cast his eye over the latest signing which on the surface appears to be a sensible upgrade on DKE.

It isn't going to change so if you do not like it you are supporting the wrong club.

I'm wondering if this is the nephew of BBC's Dotun Adebayo, who hosts the brilliant late night World Football Phone-in. If it is, it will do our profile no harm at all.
