I’m not a racing fan but he’s surely the greatest of all time.
A man of few words but who had great wit.
One small time trainer berated him after Lester lost on his horse and pronounced that Lester would never ride for him again.
Piggot replied.....”I guess that’s me finished then!”.....🤣🤣😎😎

I knew that he hadn't died but certainly thought that he was older than 86.
Did Lester ride Livermore or Zohore?
Not being a fan of horse racing, the two things I remember him most for was going to Wrexham with the Albion in 1971, the Watney cup. We went into a pub and they had horse racing on. Lester's horse had unseated him and ran off before the race and he was trying to catch it in a Landrover. That and being jailed for tax evasion.
He always looked like he was sucking a lemon 🍋.
Bye old chap, I guess someone else will p iss the money you saved up a wall.
Like Dubs, I thought he had died some years ago for some reason and certainly thought he was older than 86 maybe because he started his career so young at just 12! Never a great fan of horse racing but his was a name pretty constantly on the TV either on Grandstand or World of Sport throughout the time I grew up. His record of achievements in the sport speak for itself though regardless of the tax fiddling episode and his miserable looks.
Remember going to Epsom in 1957 to watch my first Derby and Lester triumphed on Crepello. My Mum always backed him in the Derby but could never pronounce his name. She always used to ask me who Lesley Piggott was riding. I used to try to correct her but just accepted it in the end when she backed more Derby winners than I did! RIP Champ.
From your first sentence I thought that you meant that he had travelled to Wrexham with the Albion fans!
I detest horse racing but Piggott was clearly an all time great in that particular pastime! I suppose one could say that he was unlucky in being sent to prison for tax evasion when so many others have escaped that fate (numerous politicians and Harry Redknapp, allegedly).
For me gambling can be worse than drinking too much! Its not difficult to understand why that Coates woman who owns BET365 is the richest woman in the country ( well maybe second to Mrs Non Dom Sunak )
Even Becker being sent to prison in my eyes was really harsh! It's OK for w ankers like Amazon and others to tax dodge but if it's an individual then the book is thrown at them! So wrong!
He was one of those blokes who looked about 90 in his 30's bit like Keith Richards.
