To put it into perspective, with Smith, Icky and possibly Cheo leaving on frees in the next 12 months thats around 10million worth of player out the door for nowt.

TS needs to be offering these "Wallet" deals in January....

Anyone would think the club is sitting on its hands doing nothing.
If we’d sold Smith & Ikkie last season we’d have got fees but would not have been promoted.

Ikkie is a good player but is prone to errors, culminating in the one at Sunderland which could have cost us promotion. Am now prepared to say it was awful and undid all the teams hard work that game.

I just feel that this time we need to try something different in those key positions. More of the same will bring the same results.
Let’s just see what the recruitment team does.
If players don’t want to be here after the season we’ve had, well goodbye & good luck.

The risk of offering those deals and us not going up may have been thought to have been too great.

Disagree. Doubling their salaries for this season would be adding several hundred thoundsand to the wage bill, not millions.... which is what we will end up spending on replacements, salaries, agents fees and lost sales revenue.

Weve made repeated short sighted efforts on the contract front and now, again, we stand to wave goodbye to an excellent squad.

Icky is the player we could most afford to say goodbye to. He's error prone, but have we got better lined up?

Say they're both on 4k per week thats 400k so 800k for another 3 years. Then add on the signing and loyalty bonuses say another 200k and you're looking at 1.5m quids extra.

Icky and Smith have both been with the Millers for years.

There is an unlikely chance that they will both sign new contracts with us.

Football, a game that's basically " my mercenaries are better than your mercenaries"

Yet when one of our mercenaries decides to fight for another side we act surprised.

Add on top of that the average contract being 2-3 years then every squad in the Football League should expect at least 40-50% of the players to be either leaving or re-negotiating at the end of every season. It's the 'way of the world' since the Bosman ruling. Business as normal.

Doesn’t matter how anyone wants to butter it up, as a club we are piss poor at retaining any players. It’s the same old adage season in and out.

We get to a players last 12 months but, ‘’ we’ll talk to them in the New Year’’ A complete load of tosh where contract talks should happen way before that. I feel Paul Douglass’s Chief Exec along with the board, are very poor in player retention.

Completely agree with that Brin. The board has no plan at all,we have a manager who has imroved players and we are in a position to take full advantage BUT we are clueless because while ever we have such a low pay structure we will lose players. We were told that substatial funding would be available. If this was the case, we would have been able to keep Smith,so the "we have learnt from previos mistakes" is a load of .....

I'm guessing if we were able to pay 20K/week across the board we'd have no problem in player retention. We can't so we do it's as simple as that. If we increased ticket prices four or five fold we could probably do it but then we'd have a problem with fan retention.
