    Jet 2 CEO Blames Brexit

The Jet 2 CEO has blamed Brexit for the chaos at U.K. airports with thousands of Europeans having gone back home!

That’s absolutely bollox and shocking organisation from airports and airlines having caused this mess. Heappey the CEO refers to the Brits being lazy!! Who wants to be screamed at in the airports with anti social hours and long days on the minimum wage? Not many!

Perhaps if these airports/airlines actually paid the staff properly for the long anti social hours they would get suitable applicants. Yes some Europeans who were in the country might have accepted these conditions but that’s a form of slave Labour!

Bit like all these cafe and restaurant workers who have worked four days of the Bank Holiday - I hope these businesses have paid them double time as otherwise their problem if they walk out!

Makes you laugh all these mega rich businesses like Sports Direct, Amazon, Airlines, Bet365 who think they can continue to treat staff like s hit when clearly staff can now pick and choose where they work and to an extent - what pay they want too!

Tui are allowing their staff to work anywhere in the world for 30 days per year.

If they can get them there then I guess!?

    Not sure how you can come to this conclusion. Michael O'Leary, the Ryainair CEO said something similar this week;

"Pre Brexit you would have had a lot of Europeans doing check-in, baggage handling etc. This labour shortage is a direct result of Brexit - a disaster for the UK economy and is driving inflation"

Surely we listen to industry leaders within their field when they talk about issues causing us problems? Like this one.

The reason why Europeans were doing this is the same reason why many Europeans worked in hotels - hours are very long - weekend working - no rewards - no double pay etc etc. bordered on slave Labour. These Airlines make millions so the simple solution is offer a fair wage for the hours and staff will be recruited. British people now can pick and choose jobs so why would any work in s hit jobs! Ryan Air is a joke of an airline with zero customer service so you get what you pay for in life.

Maybe all those illegal immigrants would love to work to earn their payouts/accommodation?

A lot of Europeans chose to come to this country and work. This has really helped our labour market in the last couple of decades. And they contributed to our society by paying taxes.

Ryanair lost £300m last year, admittedly it was pandemic related but still. BA and Virgin are rumoured to be on the brink. Flybe and Thomas Cook have gone bust in the last few years. Its unusual for airlines to make mega profits, if they do it is because their model is efficient.

So I guess, the low paid jobs are in part helping keeping inflation low. Now we've voted for Brexit - expect higher inflation.

Agree with all that but it’s a vicious circle. There’s a huge job shortage so individuals will choose the best working hours and pay. Working in a nice cafe on the minimum wage or working in an airport with very early starts/late finishes and people shouting at you? It’s a no brainier which one many staff would choose!

Sadly it was immigration that won the Brexit vote but many didn’t understand that all the Europeans were legal and hardworking and the Afghans/Syrians etc had nothing to do with Brexit and even now are entering the country in large numbers! Perhaps those who voted Brexit because of immigration should have had pictures drawn!

Some of us just hate the EU. Anything that likes to string lots of different cultures together and slowly but surely start dictating other peoples affairs is a red flag to me. Plain and simple. Immigration is an issue though.

Much easier to blame Brexit rather than your own industry.

There was chaos in Belgium. Netherlands, France, Ireland and 1000's of flights were cancelled in the States. Brexit?

Schipol's answer is to pay more.
