Interesting claim. I wonder if it's true. Forget the distorted "gun deaths" stats that conflate homicide and suicide. Setting suicides apart, you get about 15,000 annual homicides in the US. Let's say 80% were done by firearm: 12,000 / 365 = 33 daily gun homicides.

Aren't they topping that in Ukraine? I just sent them $44 billion.

The former Soviet republics have strict gun laws and homicide rates comparable or higher than the US. Ukraine's pre-war homicide rate was almost identical to that of the US (6.2 v 6.3 per 100,000), despite the fact that Americans have many guns and Ukrainians have few of them.

Then the Russians invaded and the government started handing out automatic weapons to all takers.

You seem to agree it's true you just want to subtract suicides to make it less appalling. The fact we are even discussing the number of gun deaths in the US and Ukraine right now in the same breath is staggering. Don't you agree?
My god accidental gun deaths exceed 2000 per year.

As someone who has to deal with depression I very much agree with you on this 123.

There have been times when if I’d had easy access to a gun I might easily have blown my own head off.

It’s quick and easy for the person doing it to themselves, less so for those finding the body.

Every other method of suicide is more risky in terms of failure rate and potentially more painful or leaves too much time to take effect.

A gun makes a murder or a suicide a much higher chance of occurring.

Easier method than a gun is swallow a load of tablets and if you know what you are taking and won’t be found you will be brown bread! Pulling a trigger or using a rope would take more guts and make sure you think more. Many who take an overdose and it’s not a cry for help don’t recover if they know what they are taking and the quantity.

It would be interesting to know the amount of knife deaths in the U.K. compared to the USA per capita! I would guess we are higher than them!

I do applaud the farmer though in the U.K. when a gypo thug broke into his property and terrorised him and he shot him! Serve him right! Anybody with a break in during the night should be permitted to use appropriate force whatever that may be!

More like 500 accidental gun deaths in the US. I'm not trying to make figures less "appalling," just pointing out that suicides are irrelevant to gun policy. It's not the job of the government to chain you to this planet. You do you.

Many girls would associate fear and pain pulling a trigger or hanging. Guys would perhaps be split but for me swallowing the right quantity of a lethal medication would be much much easier than pulling a trigger!

Good point! Parents should be held account more for how they bring their kids up - watching violent films - hours on violent games locked in rooms - constantly on tablets at meal times etc and non attendance at schools. The violence comes from somewhere and a lot of these films/games should be banned!

Why do kids turn into weirdos or loners? Something usually wrong in the family home!

Discipline and respect! A lot of kids are allowed to run wild and there’s no respect! T eens in the US are often more respectful than T eens here! You hardly ever seen a fast meal restaurant in the US with dirty tables or those that have eaten not disposing of all the waste in the bins! Some restaurants here are trashed!

If I was terminally ill I’d go to Dignitas and use the correct drugs to kill me quickly.

No way would I chance it with prescription type drugs and painkillers, it’s too easy to end up still alive with serious liver and kidney damage.

Trouble with that Mick you need to think about it! Anyone with half a brain would be able to get the right quantity of medication and swallow then if not a cry for help ensure your not found.

With the right quantity and without a stomach pump in the sufficient time a persons organs would fail and there’s no coming back! All about quantity of course! Sadly it happened to a close person we know and there was no coming back for her!
