OT Negative Rotherham news

They've made a cracking job of the town centre , absolutely fantastic what they've done .

A real sense of pride when you walk in town these days .

I initially thought it was a huge gamble , what with Meadowhall , Leeds and internet shopping but it's paid off with the Town centre vibrant and busy .

I live equidistant between Barnsley and Rotherham, I go to Barnsley centre reasonably regularly, Rotherham centre hardly ever.

Both towns have Labour councils, so what’s going wrong in Rotherham?

Barnsley are only correcting the mistake they made in the 60s or 70s when they knocked down all the nice old buildings and put up a load of horrible concrete brutalist monstrosities.

Rotherham Council have improved the High Street and they're finally doing something about Westgate. But apart from the football there's no real reason to go into he town centre.

Clicked on links but what are you saying they are telling us about the demographics?

Barnsey one indicated 92% of central Barnsley born in UK but can't see (might be being thick as usual) any similar data in the Rotherham link? AS I understand it the demographic break down of Barnsley and Rotherham is very similar

Interesting to read about how Barnsley have improved their town centre whilst Rotherham seems by consensus (at least on here) to be relatively poorer. I wonder if it is just a more effective council make up is the difference as so much else seems very similar.
