If Ross has been told he can identify positions that need filled but has to rely on Tony's decisions on which players get signed then Ross will maybe be concerned that if he can't select his own players then it'll still be him that gets fired if it goes wrong and Tony will still be in a job.

On the other hand as you suggest Ross should be asking himself if he'll get a better chance to bounce back.

That's the only sticking point with this appointment,Tony must know he cannie do a Tam on Jack Ross the latter would demand a sit down and at least a 50% input on player recruitment.

Some folk are really struggling with the fact United use a recruitment model that doesn't have it's roots firmly set in the past.
