Tom Jones, now there's a proper singer. I bet there is a few on here who'd still throw their knickers at him if they saw him.

Cant agree at all with you and Kets on this.

Babooshka is a story, easy to pick on the chorus for derision.

The Man With The Child In His Eyes is a superbly crafted song in my opinion and she wrote it when she was 13-14 years of age and same with Wuthering Heights.

I agree with Des’s point about the sheer impact that that song and Bohemian Rhapsody had when first shown on Top Of The Pops in the 70’s........they were standout moments of uniqueness.

I’d add to that God Save The Queen by The *** Pistols, a personal favourite.

I’ve never been a music snob like Kets, I’m as happy listening to Elenore by The Turtles as I am to Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, The Damned, The Clash, The Jam, Blink 152, Badfinger or Lady Gaga.

Maybe it’s an age thing with Kate Bush 68, I guess you were 10 when she hit the charts and Kets was 40, there’s probably a sweet spot where us spotty, w a n k fest ****agers of 16-19 just loved her?

Nothing to do with age Mick, I thought the world of Blondie and lusted after her as a ten year old.

Just didn't rate Kate Bush as a singer, performer or even as particularly desirable either.

Tastes are subjective and she's most definitely not the subject of any of mine.

If she ever reads this forum I'm sure she won't take this news too personally.

    Ahh Blondie.

The ONLY female to adorn my bedroom wall in amongst my football posters in that era.

Considering how lush Debbie Harry was in the late 70’s when she was already 33 years old she hasn’t worn very well.

No “hand shandy” to present day images of her!

Kate Bush burst onto the scene in the late 70s just before I emigrated to Canada. I bought her first three albums and loved her stuff. Musically, it was very inventive, original and interesting to listen to. Apart form anything else, the chord progressions were always quite superb and made my spine tingle. I cant say I ever really liked her voice that much because it was a little too high pitched and whiney for my taste and I sometimes found her dancing a little cringy and overly-dramatic. But musically, she more than made up for it because her music was brilliant. Then in 1979 I moved to Canada and because there was no internet then and she never really made much of an impact in North America, I cant say that I heard much of her or about her for quite a while. Then I found out she had released a number of albums in the 80s and 90s and I was anxious to find out what she had done since I left England. I can honestly say that I was underwhelmed. I know that everyone seems to love Running up that Hill and, while its not a bad song, it doesn't do very much for me at all. It doens't have the inventiveness of her earlier stuff. Another one is Cloudbusters, which again, has its merits but is too repetitive, and most of the others I don't even remember them because they didn't really leave any impression on me. So for me, her early stuff is fabulous. Her later stuff is ho-hum. Just my opinion. We all like what we like and sometimes its hard to explain quite why.

Tom Jones even now has a fantastic voice and a legend. You can’t beat Lulu either as she was exceptional!

Kate Bush was good but no desire there for me
    whatsoever!

Here’s a singer for you with a very good backing band (Taylor Hawkins on drums).
