Just remember that these players are playing teams week in week out that are similar or worse than the likes of Dover, Kings Lynn etc. 54 goals against those sides to me doesn't strike as so impressive than say Wrexham who have the likes of Mullin or Stockport who had Madden who have shown they can do it at a higher level.
Difference is, we can't attract the likes of Mullin or Madden who were only tempted to the NL by the money. Be realistic.
Would you rather we signed 2 players who scored 10 goals in the NL last season or players who scored 54 in the league below?

    Few points for consideration;

    - 4/5 signings have come from the league below. But, again, what about the existing group? Does that not count?
    - 1 of the 4 from level below have have experience at an higher level
    - League 2 standard, don’t we have players already that would perform comfortably in L2? Slocombe, Brindley, Cameron, Palmer, Roberts, Ruben… I’m sure there are others.
    - Stockport, yes fair play. But, Wrexham? Not the best example.

I think we’re a lot closer to the right mix, than you give Notts credit for.

Yet they remain in the NL? I think I understand your logic but as others have said, on a pure ability point of view, do you think Roberts was a risk? I think you would be pleasantly surprised at the number of very good technical players at tier 6, not to mention the the professionalism of many of those clubs, part-time or not. They are not all Dovers and KLT's).

George Harmon, LB/LWB at Oxford City just got a move to the Scottish Prem. I know it's not like the English top tier but to play at that level you have to have some ability, Harmon obviously has so why not Langstaff, Scott and Austin?

Let’s be honest. Since being in this League, only once has a side ‘with money’ been promoted. Many of the teams that have been promoted have had smaller budgets but decent NL players. Many on here have said we need more NL standard players who know the league rather than players on the way down.
I am comfortable with who we’re signing as well as the players retained to know that we can compete.
Wrexham could blow the league away or do what they did this season. I watched the playoff game v Grimsby and they were very limited in the main but had a handful of more than useful players.
I’d like to think that we are not **** or bust and that the squad assembled can consistently perform at 7/10 which IMO would take us close.
Keeping Ruben and Cal would be a bonus as they both have the X-factor and are both on the up and equally as destructive as players like Mullin.
We have the potential to absolutely blow the league to bits. We are more youthful than ever. We have goals in a number of players not just one or 2. Notts fans moaning at replacing 20 goals (Woots) with 50 goals (Gateshead duo) and the likelihood of more pace and movement is crazy talk, especially as that was our biggest attacking down fall last season.
Honestly, I’m as optimistic this season coming as I have ever been. As long as the new gaffer is up to it.

In 2010, a 23 year old Jamie Vardy was playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club in the Northern Premier League Division One East.

So it can and does happen!

Does anyone have a name for this mythical creature we need in the middle of the park? Seems unanimous, but oddly few names kicking about. If we could take our pick from the NL who would it be?

    Imaginus Thick-tishous perhaps.
Yeah, it's really really boring and weird, all this 'destroyer' '6ft beast' crap. The job's done. Palmer is the defensive mid and Austin the box-to-box guy in what others have mentioned - a likely 3-4-2-1.

Another first-teamer would displace one of those guys and completely bury Francis, Vincent and O'Brien, who would hardly ever be seen again. Are they supposed to be just dead contracts? And don't Francis and Vincent, as young players, deserve the chance to build on their first seasons with us?

We need wing-back depth and another CB perhaps, far more than another midfielder, spots there are taken as far as I can see.

I would put forward Jayden Harris at Aldershot aged 22, for those who get fixated on height, 6 foot 1. He would need a fee as under contract until 2023.

I agree that we could already have that slot sorted, but for arguments sake have put up a name, could all be a pie in the sky.
