Thread: Dwight Gayle

    Dwight Gayle

Newcastle United have offered Middlesbrough the chance to sign striker Dwight Gayle this summer as they look to offload the striker. With his family settled in the north east, it is understood that the move to Boro would appeal to the player too.
Gayle is one of three players who have been told to train with the under-23s as the Magpies look to sort exits, along with former Boro targets Jeff Hendricks and Ciaran Clark. The Tyneside club have made Boro aware of Gayle's availability, with talks between the two parties about a potential deal.
The 32-year-old is on a good wage on Tyneside and he would have to either take a pay cut or have Newcastle supplement his pay package in order for Boro to make a deal happen.

Gayle's representatives are understood to have held talks with Boro too. There is other Championship interest in his services, with Watford named in other reports. The Hornets will have the benefit of Premier League parachute payments and be able to offer the finisher a higher wage. But staying in the north east where his family are settled after six years at St James' Park makes Boro an attractive proposition for the player.

A decent move for Boro with the right financial package, albeit he has suffered more injuries in his recent past (age?)
It was reported that the Toons completed a ‘contract extension’ last year I think.
PS I also liked Ciaran Clark.
