Ignoring the ***ist and mysoginistic comments (jokes I hope), all credit to the ladies.
Everyone seems so miserable in England at times, it is good to have something to celebrate.
I don’t care if the players are male, female, white, black, brown or Asian. Success is success. Good luck to them.
I do agree that “Lionesses” is somewhat naff. All too tame. They should be named after something deadly, sharp, skilful.
Lovely post Swiss. I have a fairly simple happy philosophy. People are either good or bad and then it doesn’t matter what colour they are, what s*x they are, what religion they are. I don’t feel the need to continually apologise for the actions of others in the past or today. Anyone who has met me might say I am pretty laid back. I am most of the time but occasionally I could rant for England. The England Women’s team is well organised, well managed and hopefully will be very successful in the European Championships. Women’s football is clearly not for everyone but I would hope even critics can appreciate honest endeavour and simple delight in winning. Lionesses is what they are even if it doesn’t make a good chant. Come on England probably suffices.
As a football fan, I watch football at all levels and that has always included Womens' football and I was involved in coaching locally with my friend and it was most enjoyable. They wanted to learn and become better players and always gave it 100% and were inspired by players such as Lucy Bronze who is a Northumbrian and who has really made the grade.
It is good to see the England team doing well and I am very pleased for their manager who really knows the game as was pointed out by outwood in an earleir post.
I am with you, Supersub.
I follow the Clarets Ladies team and enjoy watching the videos. They come across as very keen to improve, succeed and be the best that they can.
There are still odd “howlers” and the goalkeepers suffer from a lack of height yet play regulation sized goal posts (bring on Nichola Popette). However, 100% application and great team spirit are both evident. No hiding and going AWOL for long stretches.
The Burnley Ladies team have improved so much over the last few seasons. They used to 'carry' a couple of 'passengers' in many respects, however, they replaced them with better players and gained promotion and they had a decent season last season and I am looking forward to further progress next season.
Advice to anyone is to watch with an open mind and forget about the mens' game because that is getting worse each season but is so over-hyped at the top level that fans are convinced that it is now so much better than it was. Certainly better than the 70s and 80s, however, far worse than the late 50s and 60s and with a dearth of goals when compared to those days.
