Watching the Women Euros got first time ... fills in time on train back from London. Have to say quite enjoying. Sweden stronger physically but our lot more skilful. Decent goal to go in 1-0. Have to say quite enjoying it. Less of the play acting and rolling around playing dead than in the Men’s game.
Your getting thrashed Tomas! Mick swinging from the lamp shades in celebration 🎉
Have enjoyed the game much to my surprise! It’s not as intense as a men’s game but actually there is some decent quality out there, thought we were lucky to not concede first half, Sweden were the better team. Will definitely watch the final!
A deserved win but jeez......the Swedish goalie was terrible.
I heard her described as “an icon of the game” by one squealing female commentator on the radio.
FFS if that’s an icon of female goalkeeping then it says a hell of a lot!
I was at the Stourbridge match tonight with a good mate who actually watches Stourbridge ladies side and who’s pro women’s football.
He said to me prior to tonight’s match that the biggest problem is the keeper issue, he says they don’t move their feet fast enough.
He’s spot on, watch the keeper for the fourth goal, she can barely jump to get to Kirby’s chip and he recovery to chase the ball towards goal was awful.
Same with Bronze’s header, feet set in stone.
Until keepers become more athletic and stronger and able to dive high vertically they will lower the tone of this sport.
England’s keeper did in fairness pull off a couple of good saves.
Still not for me I’m afraid but a deserved result.
I think the keeper position is probably the biggest issue across women's football as a whole judging from some of the games I have seen during the Euros. Some have been really woeful across all aspects of their game. Still, it will only improve. On the whole I have quite enjoyed the tournament and -work permitting-looking forward to the final now!
One thing I forgot to add and one of the posters above mentioned this was the complete lack of play acting when fouled, it’s the blokes that act like a bunch of girls and could clearly learn something!
There are a few things that are better about the women's game then the mens...this is one of them.....
The physicality of the men's game is gone because it has become a con tactless sport, even though they say it isn't.....it very much is.
The skill level has markedly gotten better with more infrastructure and more money invested in it at grass roots.....
Perhaps the more physical part of the game still is goalkeeping (tho that has been curtailed to looking but not touching a keeper in the men's game) and I dare say due to the nature of the female body, it may remain a slight weakness in the game.
There again, it may not.
Heading has improved and general skill levels are much higher then years ago.....but like the men's game....I find watching football on TV a huge turn off unless the game is must win game where attacking is on display.....most games today are pure shyte for paying spectators.
The mantra..."It's all about winning and it is a winning driven sport."....has basically killed the game, in my view.....
Won't be long before there's a top level transgender keeper who failed to make his former self's infant school football team...... just saying. Each to their own and all that, do carry on Matron.
