For me, a large part of the problem folk have with Lascelles stems from the time he came out and backed Ashley. For many, crossing that line meant the gloves were off whenever his performances fell short.

The history of our club is littered with players whose effort and commitment outweighed theit talent but who were appreciated for that effort. Now, Lascelles doesn't lack for either effort or commitment but doesn't get slack cut anywhere near the level of, say, Ryan Taylor or Andy O'Brien who were both limited in ability to a similar extent. Obviously, scoring a goal against the mackems helped but neither of those two had given their support to a hated owner.

I'm not saying that justifies some of the stick he gets and, for me, it no longer has an impact on my view of him (have to admit it did at the time and for a long while after). I just think he's not very good.
