I’m glad this is coming to an end.

The problem with it is that it’s not about “free speech”, people who haven’t felt comfortable doing it have felt forced to do it due to the backlash they’d get if they didn’t comply.

This isn’t support, it’s being coerced into doing something which in itself is horrible.

If I’d still been playing Sunday league football I wouldn’t have done it and in my days as manager I would’ve left it up to each player to decide.

However, if I heard anyone abusing an ethnic friend or a stranger being abused I would step in.

I don’t need to be forced into a token, coerced act to support people who differ from me.

Same goes for millions of other decent people.

I’ve said it before, there are white lads who don’t take the knee. The fact people don’t know this is a sign that there is no coercion for white footballers to do it. Alonso at Chelsea hasnt don’t it since it started.

It’s literally showing support against racism in football and society….not really a big gesture. I don’t exactly feel sorry for any white lads who did it but didn’t really believe in it. It doesn’t exactly hurt their knees!

Saying that, it’s message has got diluted over time and it’s good to have an end point.
