"Walking a tightrope with two broken legs" and the fact that he initially turned the job down tells its own story really.
Animal mentioned earlier in another thread, how Keith Hill had pressure put on him here right from the start, and he was dealt a bad hand etc.
I know that he never got the lucky breaks here that many other managers/coaches got. So was his time here better than what most of us are willing to give him credit for ?.

Yeah that was one of his funnier comments, but he was serious weren't he!.
I liked the fact that he had a big gob, and interviews with him were always interesting to say the least lol.
I will always maintain that Patrick never appointed a bad manager.
I’ve always suspected Maurice Watkins had a hand in that.
However, during Patrick’s time at the club we didn’t go forward, backwards or sideways - because unfortunately he didn’t have enough money to move the club forward.
Keith Hill and all the others fell foul of that - like he said, when Barnsley were looking for players we were shopping at Lidl’s.
Or was it Aldi ?
And thats the problem I had with him.
As interesting as he could be in interviews etc, he ran his mouth too often and it was a big reason to put fans off.
But remember when we were well placed just outside the top 6 under him, and we were approaching Christmas. Then it just fell apart badly and he never recovered from it.
That game live on the Beeb where we led 2-0 against Ipswich, but they hit back to beat us 3-5, was almost the start of the downfall.
I think there were only four more wins that season, all at home, and one of them was hammering Leeds 4-1 on New years eve!.
Is that the season when we stayed up because of Portsmouth going into admin ?.
But yeah especially losing Rico Vaz Te, who sodded off for the money after we resurrected his career. How cheaply did we sell him to Wet Spam!. 😟
Wonder how “Our Sydney” is going in with his swimming lessons…….
One of his classic post match interviews!
