If we never mentioned players who had left us, it would be seriously weird.

It's perfectly natural to show an interest in how they are doing.

More importantly he's gone, let him go and play elsewhere. We have new players can't we just concentrate on the current squad not the past?
Can’t believe how short some peoples memories are and, without trying to sound patronising, I kinda feel sorry for those people who couldn’t see that Wootton was great for us over two seasons. The difference he made when he first came in was significant….it is early days but I noticed not one of our more direct balls forward found a man today.

Wootton was a victim of Buchnalls style of play. I’d wager he’d welcome playing alongside someone like Langstaff.

As for today, a welcome three points of course but it did flatter us and papered over some pretty concerning cracks. I know Taylor scored a stunner but his overall play was laborious and clumsy (no idea why we’ve put the most one sided player onto the side of his weaker foot.

We actually created very little and I can remember only one cross into the box by either wing back. Apart from the goal, I think we created maybe two other opportunities, which is poor against a side of Maidenheads obvious limitations.

A quick mention for Ed Francis, whose days at the club I thought were numbered. He read the game superbly at times today and although fairly one footed I thought the improvement in his play and aggression were a credit to his effort he must have put in…and also to the new manager.

LW hinted he is still in the market for players. On that showing we are still two quality wingbacks short….which is frustrating seeing that this has been the case since we got relegated.

Big tests to come over the next few weeks, let’s see what we’re really made of.

Rich in history? Loaded. Talking about the past has zero impact on what we do now or in the next 9 months, which is all I care about. We can talk about the good old days of the late 80’s and early 90’s, and the one decent, yet fraudulent season. Then what? All the relegations to find us where we are now. Our claim to fame is 2 fold (oldest professional side and we gave Juve its colours) and neither will help us get back up the leagues.
Am I bothered that Wootton has left, not overly, especially if his replacement carries on as he is. But Wootton wasn’t crap. He wasn’t a player we all wanted out of the club.
Personally I’d rather speak about our players and hopefully they all do us proud this season and we achieve what we all want.
As we are talking about some ex players, Aaron Collins scored a couple today (he’s I know he was on loan), Krystian Dennis bagged his 2nd in 2 games. Finally, I saw that Lewis Allesandra has signed for South Shields, the first non league club of his career.

I don't want to go overboard after only seeing him in a couple of friendlies and less than one full game, but Langstaff looks the real deal. If we put the ball in the box often enough, I think he will get on the end of it. He's already made himself a bit of a fans favourite, it was noticeable that when he was last off the pitch at half time the applause increased considerably.

The reality is "talking" on a message board about past, present or future has zero impact either. But in terms of the very recent past, we need to understand and rectify what has not worked in order to improve and progress. Failure to learn will see us stuck in this sandtrap division.

    Don't forget.
The last 70 days the whole of the football World has been talking about Forest. (Except last Sunday).
The players obviously felt the strain today.
Next week at CG will be easier on their nerves.
They can be better, they know that, and they will be better.
I listened to Radio Red on the way home, and it mostly consisted of them making a string of excuses as to why Forest were so shyte, the main one being that Newcastle was an incredibly tough fixture.

Same on LTLF, somehow Newcastle are now seen as world beaters. So it's a bit strange how on their pre-match prediction thread only 13.6% of Forest fans predicted they would lose!

In stature, his appearance has a real likeness to Ben Davies - stocky and solid. His work rate, awareness and energy was everything we've been missing for a long time. He has the waspiness of Luke Rodgers and looks to be one that will never let the defenders settle. Early days, but first impressions are very good.

    I have a feeling that as well as learning the hard way that it’s the journey, not the destination, our red friends will be providing some quality moments of comedy this season. Starting with this;

On the topic of work rate, I thought Sam Austin ran his arse off today, just a shame he wasn't rewarded with a goal.

Yes, definitely agree with that. He looks another good find.
