First thing to say is well done to the ten minute wonder Aaron Nemane, who from listening to the radio commentary was man of the match, and set up the goal inside the last ten minutes of the game 😊
I think people were expecting Gateshead to be a push over, but after signing ML and CS, I have watched lots of Gateshead match highlights and videos in general, and have been impressed at the spirit, workrate, skill and determination at the club. Given that we were interested in their manager also, who most on here would have been happy to take, I think the point gained last night was a decent return, as we were not at our best it seems.
After being put under heavy pressure from their high press initially we sounded like we found a way to deal with it as the half wore on, which is good, going forward.
It was also good to hear LW say, 'sooner rather than later', when asked when we could expect to see ML and CS in the team together.
It is very easy for people to say we should be beating teams like Gateshead away, but that means winning at least half our away games, as I think Gateshead will finish mid table, and so presumably winning all our home games, giving a points total in the region of 108 points, hmmm.
Everyone agrees it is the most difficult league to get out of, then some go into meltdown, when we start unbeaten after three games, two of which being away. All this when we haven't been at our best for long spells. Having said that, Saturday will give us a better idea of where we are at.
I do feel LW shows his lack of experience in press conferences, and post match interviews, finding it hard to strike a balance between being too hard or too soft. Let's hope he connects with the players in a positive manner.
