Brentford discovered a few years into their new approach that the higher in the league they were, the more their players were worth - a player appearing in their mid-table team was suddenly worth millions more when they made the playoffs. They also recognised that they were more likely to be in the playoffs if they had a mixture of youth and experience, but it took them a while to get the balance right.

For me, signing an “experienced” player means someone who’s 25-27 and has played plenty of games, not someone over the age of 30.

If (a big if) there was any disconnect between recruitment and coaching, then LW better stay in his lane. It must have been clearly spelt out to them on taking the job. Input is fine, but it ain't your decision or final say.

If they then didn't want to play and develop those recruited players, then they're only hastening their departures really.
Ardley wouldn't play Ruben and look what happened to him. It shows through in results sooner rather than later.

Having said that, I doubt anything of the sort is going on. Just the usual 'failed to win a couple' hysteria.

It’s more and more common now that clubs have a recruitment panel and in a couple of years I doubt many won’t. Why would you leave it to the one man who at a sniff of a better job would leave you or if they underperform you have to sack them and pay them off, recruiting players is the biggest cost to a football club and owners now want more control and rightly so I think.
I think the buying players to sell isn’t totally accurate. Their words were signing undervalued players. For example if Langstaff knocks in the same amount of goals as Mullen and you’re paying him a third of his wages it’s a pretty good way of doing things.

    What he said ^^^^^^^^

You argue with your boss, you lose the argument.

    You play Ruben.

Usually the 'hysteria' appears after a defeat but disappointing draws is a good enough excuse.
