Any car mechanics on here ?

My fuel range figure on my dashboard shows 999 one minute , and 20 the next, and is changing all the time thereafter .The rest of the dashboard functions are all working fine. Anyone got any suggestions to remedy this problem ? It’s annoying me !!

It probably changes every time you depress or release the accelerator. If you are free-wheeling it will show 999, however, if you press the accelerator the figure will change and it will vary on any gradient.
If you want to remedy the problem, switch it off would be my advice ---unless you are getting very poor consumption in reality.

I am getting 50 to the gallon. The car is a Corsa 1.4 SE. It appeared to be working ok before ,when the fuel range figure got lower as I used more fuel ,and the mileage went up !

Any problem with my car and I take it to the garage. They don't have mechanics any more, just technicians and software experts. Last two problems I've had were resolved by software updates.

The range calculators on cars are well renowned to be useless.Mine goes from 60km range to zero in 10km.I prefer the normal fuel gauge for refuelling and fag packet technology for mpg or litre/km here in metricland.

Can you not switch it to a different mode so it doesn't show fuel range? A bit like turning your radio up when you hear a knocking sound from the engine.
