CEOs of the UK's biggest companies have seen their pay rise by 39%

While many Britons are set to be hit hard by the cost of living crisis, the top earners have seen a large increase in their pay.

Research by the High Pay Centre and Trades Union Congress found the pay of chief executives of companies in the FTSE100 index has increased by 39% since the pandemic.

Their median pay rose from £2.46m in 2020 to £3.41m in 2021, the analysis found.

The richest 1% is the only group to have seen a real terms pay growth in the last year.
