That goal of his against Maidenhead must have been the highlight of his entire career and put his confidence on a high. So what do we do with this newly confident player? Drop him.

It reminds me of IB's handling of Eli, who was having the best playing and scoring run of his time with Notts when he was duly dropped and never seen again really.
The handling of Sam by IB after that red hot run was strange without a doubt.

But the Taylor situation is very different for me, unfortunately i wasn't there that day but I wonder bar a fantastic strike for his goal did he play well against Maidenhead? You can't keep a player in the side cos of a rare long range wonder strike unless he played well over the 90 mins.

He played very well over the 90 minutes and was unfairly dropped...Not the best way to treat your players...

I’d play him as left wing back over Chicksen any day. Even on the right he settled into it against Maidenhead and after producing one abysmal attempt at a cross on his right foot, soon afterward put in a peach of a cross with the same foot that deserved finishing off.

He seems maddeningly inconsistent, but I’d still pick him on Saturday to play on the left.

"Taylor - A peach of a strike for the goal but otherwise was clumsy and one footed offering very little threat. No idea what we’ve got the most one sided player at the club plying on his weakest side. I’ll mark him up for his goal though - 6.5"

And therein lies the beauty of football, it is all about opinions. One supporter's "very good" is another supporter's "clumsy and one footed offering very little threat" and a marked up rating of 6.5 due to the wonder strike.

Taylor was pretty average against Maidenhead. He did a job on the wrong side without ever looking like a right wing back. As left wing back at the moment it's 50/50 between him and Chicksen, the weakness of one is the strength of the other. I would say that neither option suggest they are up to a place in a promotion winning team.

Well, perhaps one day you will break the habit of a lifetime and get to see these players yourself and give you own opinion, instead of cherry-picking others..

    I recognise that quote 😂

I guess we must all have players we just ‘don’t get’….Taylor is that player for me. We’ve got ‘Check back Chicksen’ and ‘Turn back Taylor’ as our wing backs, no wonder we’re not creating much. For the record I do like Chicksen, but a wing back he ain’t.

Cameron is the answer for LWB, I’m sure of it.

Seeing as we appear determined to play the wing back system, it's a bit odd that it's an area our recruitment team seem to have neglected a bit. We have a few options, but basically they are defenders trying to perform the role, or wingers trying to perform the role. All are reasonably capable of doing a 6/10 job, but nobody who you would pick in a heartbeat. We must have a bit of financial leeway unless we are simply using the cash to cover costs, so let's hope the #radar hits the target sooner rather than later.

I don't think he pulled up any trees, but did an OK all-round job on the wrong side of the pitch for him by all accounts - and was in other highlights apart from the goal too. Anyway, I think confidence for any sportsman or woman is a precious commodity and I'd like to have seen him retain his place.

Another point I want to make about wing-backs..... I'm not saying he's the answer, but Nemane can do a job for you there, whereas Chicksen on the other side absolutely can't.

If a player like Nemane goes forward, there's no shortage of cover in a 5-3-2 behind him

    - the right sided centre-back shouldn't be a stranger to defending out wide and can slide over
    - in fact the whole of the defensive unit can slide over if need be to make a four
    - the idea of a player like Francis (or Bajrami) is to drop into the defence and the team gets defensive cover that way

But who, in a 5-3-2, is going to 'cover' for Chicksen if he doesn't get into the attacking third? The answer is nobody will cover that job. The opposition will have in effect a wall built a third of the way across their defensive line and can then concentrate on defending the centre.
I hope LW follows the wishes of most on this thread and reverts to a back 4, but if he doesn't I hope he has the courage to play Taylor and Nemane. And let us see what we have with TAR soon enough.
