A small piece of it anyway. This is a report from a journalist here in Seattle who does a weekly piece on local heroes who 'triumph over adversity'. The athlete in this one had to fight for 58 years to get his achievement recognised and thankfully it was whilst he was still alive and he's now part of the record books.
If you have 7 minutes to spare in your busy day I think it's worth a watch.

Excellent.
Thanks for sharing.
Least he’s finally been recognised and yes whilst he’s still here which is great news
I've been wracking my brains to see if I had any similar 'un-rewarded' athletic achievements at Mexborough Grammar School but I'm not sure winning the 4th form 'house' football tournament or coming 4th in the 1st form cross country merit entries in the Guinness Book of Records![]()
My uncle also bettered the long jump world record in 1969
It was wind assisted though
And over the cliff edge at Flamborough
CAM, thank you. What a great story. One man's dream to prove he was the best. He must have cried buckets in private when he realised what he was claiming had finally been proven to be correct. Well done that man, rest easy now champion.
