Would like to think otherwise, but the reality seems that we have reached our peak. Can't see the financial sense in expanding (other than away end) when even the juiciest fixtures can't attract a full house.
Attendance wise.
Loads refused to go to DVS and we suffered to attract any new fans for years until NYS was built.
Bramall Lane and Hillsborough have thousands each week between them from the Rotherham borough and I know a few lads that follow forest and Leeds who are Rotherham born and breed.
We barely get to 20k when we play at Wembley now.
I think demographics, apathy and geography mean that will never be able to justify a ground expansion.
Or is it a case that if you build it. They will come?

Yep, but still better off than many.
Unless we sign players that the public know and want to see then we wont grow anymore.
Reached our peak?
Hmmm
Revenue generation peak maybe yes
Revenue expending peak then maybe no
Personally I think we are treading a financial tightrope at the moment
Attendance wise as per initial post
Top ten averages of attendance by league one 2017.
1 44,460 Bundesliga 2 38,620 Premier League 3 27,612 La Liga 4 24,166 Serie A 5 24,033 Chinese Super League 6 23,202 Liga MX 7 22,106 Major League Soccer 8 21,732 2. Bundesliga 9 21,199 Ligue 1 10 20,425 Championship
So we dip our hook into the tenth most attended league on the planet but cant get a bite.
I would guess sustainably is key.
We lacked ambition with a new ground starting at 12k with potential increases to 16k and an unlikely 20k. We should have just gone for 15-16k, and also offered a better match day experience with a club house.
A safe standing area might bring in more fans, especially ones who currently congregate at back on north stand.
There is an increasing number of t.eenage fans and more families, so still think there is potential to increase home crowd.

I don't see anything changing in the near future to warrant a ground extension.
Though when the stadium was built I thought a 15k stadium capacity would have been a achievable figure
